Cora Ada Elmore Montgomery
1908 - 2006

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8: 38-39 KJV
Cora Ada Elmore Montgomery was born May 18, 1908 in Patterson, Louisiana. She was baptized in 1947 by Rev. R. H. Leonard at St. Luke Baptist Church in Patterson. She was married to the late Joseph "Joe" Montgomery, also of Patterson, on April 29, 1929 at the home of Reverend Cooper. One child, Yvonne Faye, was born to the couple. She was a life-long Deaconess at St. Luke Baptist Church. Lovingly called "Mama Ada" she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother not only to her immediate family but to her church family as well. She quietly and faithfully served the Lord through obedient surrender to His Word.
Her daughter, Yvonne married Burnie James Williams and later moved to Galveston, Texas. Yvonne and Burnie had eight children: Carol Ann, Burnie, Yvonne, Gerald Wayne, Reginald Daniel, Charles, Ronald James, and Sandra. Her great niece, Temia remembers her Aunt Ada's visits to her grandmother Mary Nell's on Sunday afternoons, and the two would sit for hours on Mary's porch until her husband Joe picked her up. She remembers an attractive woman who was always meticulously dressed. Another great niece, Sheena recalls how Aunt Ada and her grandmother, Amanda would not only talk on those black phones daily but would visit each other. Many of the family members nieces and nephews alike remember how all of the Elmore siblings were a close-knit family. It was not uncommon for them to call each other on the phone or to visit each other as previously stated by both Temia and Sheena, or to help out in any way possible.
After the death of her husband, Joe, she lived with her great-granddaughter Nicole in Patterson who took care of her until her passing in 2006. Ada's great-great granddaughter, Anjeanea, enjoyed singing her favorite gospel songs with her. Anjeanea is an active lead and solo singer in church. Ada's family was her pride and joy.
In doing family research, Sheena discovered that there was a mystery sister that no one knew about. Her name was Cora. This person showed up in the 1910 Census, but not in the 1920 Census. When asked who she was, no one knew. So, she concluded that this person died as a child. However, she recently learned from Aunt Ada's great grand daughter Nicole that Aunt Ada's name was Cora. She did not like it; so you know what? She changed it. So the mystery has now been solved.
